Dr. Tomas Butvilas has acquired MA in Social Sciences (minor in educational psychology) from Šiauliai University in 2000 and has defended his Ph.D. thesis in education sciences at the same university in 2006. He holds position of associate professor at the Institute of Education Sciences and Social Work at Mykolas Romeris University as well as Vilnius Business College where he lectures on various subjects of social work, psychology, education sciences and sociology. Dr. T.Buvilas holds an amplitude of academic positions: he is a member of CREAN network (FUB, Berlin), a member of ENMCR network (FUB, Berlin), a member of ICYRnet network (Cyprus), a member of the board of the academic peer-reviewed journal “Studies in Contemporary Society” (Šiauliai University), a member of the editorial board of the international journal “US-China Education Review” (David Publishing Company, USA), an expert of the Research Council of Lithuania, an expert of the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education, as well as some other important appointments. Dr. T.Butvilas had acquired a remarkable research experience during fellowships and internships at University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), Mount Michael Benedictine Abbey and High School (Elkhorn), Fribourg University, Oslo University, Freie Universität Berlin, and University of Bremen. Research interests of dr. Tomas Butvilas concentrates on issues related to socialization of bereaved children, impacts of divorce, migration and parents' death on children, adoption and guardianship, as well as an amplitude of related subjects in educational sciences, psychology and social work.
